Receptive Language Disorder

A receptive language disorder is a communication disorder that makes it difficult for a person to understand and comprehend language.  In a “nutshell”, a child with a receptive language disorder has trouble understanding what is being said to them.  Kids with a receptive language disorder may find the following to be challenging:

  • comprehending a story
  • following directions
  • keeping up in a conversation
  • inferencing
  • understanding jokes
