Developmental Delays

Developmental delays are present when a child is not meeting his or her developmental milestones in the expected time period.  It is not a “small lag” in development, but instead a significant delay. There are five main areas in which a kid may have a developmental delay.  A child may have a delay in one or more of these areas.

  • Cognitive (thinking) skills
  • Speech and Language
  • Social and emotional skills
  • Fine and gross motor skills
  • Adaptive living skills
